Department of philosophy at a glance

Salbari College, Salbari, was established on 14th of November in 1983 by the conscious educationists and guardians of the locality with a few publication donations for the welfare of the future generations. They took the bold step of starting the first ever Higher Education Institute of the area for the benefits of the poor aspiring students of greater Salbari area. They named it ‘Salbari College’ with a view to establish the name of Salbari in the educational map of Assam through its contribution to the educational field. The college opened undergraduate courses in 1986 and was affiliated to Gauhati University. It was then bifurcated into two separate entitles in 1997. In the same year, the one which retained the nomenclature ‘SALBARI COLLEGE’ was shifted to its own permanent campus. Since then, the college has been running undergraduate courses under Gauhati University and presently, as per provision under Section 5(1) &5(2) of Bodoland University Act, 2009and Govt.order No. AHE, 156/2020/19 dated 2nd July, 2020 and the decision of the Executive Council vide Resolution No.18 dated 29/04/2022 the Salbari College, Salbari Baksa BTC (Assam) has been accorded subject affiliation under Bodoland University.

The college was brought under the purview of provincialization in 2013 under the ‘The Assam Venture Educational Institution Provincialization (provincialization of Services) Act, 2011 and 2012 as amended.

OPENING OF DEGREE CLASSES

The Degree Course was started in the college in 1983 year of establishing under Gauhati University.

YEAR AND DATE OF DEFICIT UNDER G.I.A.

The college came under deficit Grants-in-aid (G.I.A.) with effect from 01-01-2009 and it is provincialised under state government in 2013.

The Department of philosophy was established at the very establishment of the college i.e. in 1983.

VISION OF THE DEPARMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy Department of Salbari College was established with the vision of imparting of quality and spiritual education to the students and its neighboring area to help students to develop intellectual abilities important for life as whole.

MOTTO OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

Our motto is to enrich the knowledge of the students of Philosophy with special emphasis on the spiritual, moral and ethical value and to create peaceful and noble atmosphere among the students. So that,they can enable themselves to be a good moral citizen in future. Studying and practicing Philosophy can help in this field

COURSE OF STUDY

The pass course under Gauhati University level was introduced in 1983 and the major course in the subject was started in Philosophy. Nowadays, the department of Philosophy is under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2023.

In the initial stage the department was managed by Dr. Chakradhar Das who was appointed in 21/08/1996 as lecturer, who happened to be the Founder of the Department. Right now, he is working as a Head of the Department of Philosophy. Dr. Rochen Mochahary was duly appointed as a lecturer in the department of Philosophy in 07/07/2002 and Dr. Ujjal Kalita was appointed as the third lecturer in the Department of Philosophy in 29/03/2007.

LIBRARY OF THE DEPARTMENT

From the year 2023 Philosophy departmental library was commenced. The departmental library contains more than 100 (one hundred only) books at present. The books are donated by the students of the dept. of Philosophy and all the faculties of the department and Dr. Ujjal Kalita is in-charge of departmental library. He is looking after the departmental Library all the days.

WALL MAGAZINE OF PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT

There is provision of publication of yearly Wall Magazine “PHILO-SOPHIA”. Students as well as teacher of the Department express their literary expertise in the wall Magazine under the guidance of Asst. prof.s Dr. Chakradhar Das as well as Dr. Rochen Mochahary and Dr. ujjal Kalita. It is expected to maintain a good and favorable environment suited for best possible development of all students.

PRESENT STATUS OF THE ALUMNI OF THE DEPARTMENT

From the very inception of the college a lot of students from different places of the locality are graduated from this institution taking Assamese as Major subjects as well as General. A good number of alumni of the department are holding a good status in the society economically, socially and politically. But, due to the gap of communication, it is not possible to keep records of present status of each and every alumnus. ATTENTION TO WEAK STUDENTS

Generally most of the students, admitted in our college are weak in economic. The Students of better results in H.S.L.C. & AHSE. Pass students do not go outside for studying science, Arts and other professional courses. Exceptionally sometimes in some academic session, we get some meritorious students. We, therefore, pay sincere attention to the weaker students of the dept. The areas in which we pay attentions are

  • Supply more books (at least four) to them for the whole of the session from the departmental library.
  • Regular personal connection outside class room is also made.
  • Special coaching is also provided regularly.

OTHER ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

Apart from course of teaching Philosophy, the department often engages in a variety of activities such as clean work, seminar and debating etc. to enhance knowledge of the students.
